There is nothing romantic about the internet
Think about it.
Can you imagine reading a romantic poem or hearing a romantic song about getting her facebook message or checking your email to see if he wrote you?
No, it would sound stupid and childish.
That’s why you still hear songs and read poems about writing letters and waiting on a phone call. Because letters and phone calls are romantic.
But let’s face it, facebook and email are a part of our modern romantic lives (granted, to varying degrees—lots of people use match.com and lots of people don’t have a computer. Most fall in between).
So it seems that for the first time, musicians and poets are ignoring a real part of their world. Paul Simon had no problem singing “Why Don’t You Write Me?” But anyone would have a problem singing “Why Don’t You Email Me?” unless it was a pop song for 13 year olds.
Maybe we all deep down think of socializing on the internet as something immature. Maybe we’re right.
Just a thought.
